IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

NEVER GIVE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION TO ANY ONE ON THE PHONE. THERE ARE NUMEROUS SCAMS WHERE PEOPLE MAY TELL YOU THAT THEY ARE FROM THE IRS, BUT THEY ARE NOT. THESE PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO STEAL YOUR INFORMATION OR YOUR IDENTITY. THE IRS WILL NEVER CALL YOU AT RANDOM ON THE PHONE, INSTEAD, THE IRS WILL SEND YOU A LETTER OVER THE MAIL.

SCAM ALERT:

IF YOU RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM THE IRS SAYING THEY ARE TAKING YOU TO COURT IF YOU DON'T PAY MONEY, HANG UP IMMEDIATELY. IF THEY KEEP CALLING YOU, CALL THE POLICE TO INVESTIGATE. THE IRS WILL NOT CALL YOU AT RANDOM TO TELL YOU THEY ARE SUING YOU. THEY WILL ALWAYS SEND YOU A LETTER IF YOU OWE MONEY. IF YOU OWE MONEY TO THE IRS, THEY ARE NOT GOING TO CALL YOU TO ASK YOU FOR MONEY... LEGALLY THEY CAN JUST TAKE YOUR MONEY.. BUT THEY WONT DO IT BEFORE WORKING WITH YOU. SO DON'T FALL FOR THESE SCAMS. AS AMERICANS, WE ARE SMARTER THAN THAT.

Other Options

The IRS is always changing its automated phone system, we try to keep up to the latest changes. If you tried the above steps and did not work, its probably because they found out about our secret. Try these steps. They work. call 800.829.1040 and then follow these prompts: 1, 2, 2, 4, 1 if the above options do not work, try these options instead: call 800.829.1040 and then follow these prompts: 1, 2, 1, 4, 2 or 1,5,3
If none of these methods worked, read the comments below from other people who found a way. The IRS is constantly changing their system, so the above methods may not work. but we try to update frequently when a new method has been discovered.

another trick that used to work, i would just keep pressing the # sign on my telephone keypad, but i am not sure it that still works UPDATE: checkout Sally's method in the comments section below, alot of people found it works.

This is the best advice you will get from anywhere on the internet. Once you have a human being on the phone. It is extremely important that you remain calm and courteous . The worst thing you can do is be rude to the IRS person. Remember your goal. Your goal is to get someone on the phone, I will get you that far, but you have to be smart, releasing your anger and your frustration to a person on the phone is not going to achieve your goal. My advice is, once you speak to a live person using our method, be nice, talk with a smile and you will see it will get your further. Imagine yourself having to answer the phone EVERY single day, listening to people complaining about their problems.

Strategy

The best strategy is to be courteous and friendly, even if the IRS person is a jerk. This is not about them, this is about YOU, and how you can achieve your goal. So why am I telling you all this. Based on our experience, when you yell, scream, humiliate or complaint to a person who has no power to change the system, it is just best not to deal with that person. What is the easy and fastest way for and IRS agent to not deal with an angry person??, hang up to the caller!!!. Many good tax paying citizens complain that the IRS hang up on them. Unfortunately, you want to speak to a human being, and human being are not like machines, they have feelings. So REMEMBER, BE NICE, IT WILL TAKE YOUR FURTHER IN YOU GOAL.

How to Fix It

How can one individual fix this problem with getting a live person at the IRS? Next time you vote, remember today and what an awful experience it has been. As of Feb. 22, 2016, this page has been seeing 128,726 times. That's 128,726 live persons who have had a difficult time reaching a live person at the IRS. You are not alone in this. Write to your senator and your representatives in congress. Get involved. Remember also, that staffing more people means, the IRS has to spend more money, more money, means higher taxes. If the IRS was a corporation, you can be assured, they would have outsourced these jobs to India. Thankfully, this is the federal government, so you can be assured that the person who answers your call, will be an American Citizen just making a living.
